ShortHand: The MOVE Bombing
The story of how the Philadelphia Police Department ended up engaging in a 90-minute shootout, and then bombing a residential townhouse, is equally nonsensical and sad. It’s a story with no heroes, where children, forced to wear rags and eat raw meat, were driven out of their home by explosives, burned alive, and even shot at as they tried to escape. Being one of the city’s darkest moments, 1985 MOVE bombing is something the city of Philadelphia might prefer to forget – but as we find out this week, in many ways, the dust has yet to fully settle.
